East Rock

Yale

Home to a number of Yale students, staff, and faculty, East Rock is a neighbourhood in New Haven, and quite the popular choice for a number of faculty in the feature. William N. Goetzmann, the Edwin J. Beinecke Professor of Finance and Management Studies and Faculty Director of the International Center for Finance at the Yale School of Management said:

It makes for a great run up to the top of this mountain where you can see all of New Haven Harbor, a beautiful 360 degree view, and the trail that goes up there is kind of classic, New England woods that changes throughout the year.

Robert Shiller, the Sterling Professor of Economics at Yale SOM mentions Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument at the top of the East Rock as his pick, with Barry Nalebuff, who’s a Milton Steinbach Professor of Management, adding:

To jog to the top of East Rock, have a view all around of the sound of the city . It cannot be beat.”

Other favorites in New Haven

Douglas Rae, Richard S. Ely Professor Emeritus of Management prefers the Star Reading Room in Sterling Library as his pick of the lot, with its fake gothic aesthetic and perfect lighting conditions making it a winning combination for the professor.

Howard P. Forman, Director of the MD/MBA Program; Director of Healthcare Curriculum, MBA for Executives Program picks Downtown as his preferred option due to the wide availability of some of the best restaurants in the city, as well as the fact that he lives there.

Kale Cooney, a Senior Lecturer in Social Enterprise and Management, chose New Haven Green as her pick.

It’s a beautiful, grand center of the city. There are music events, community events and places to sit to take in the beautiful afternoon.”
